About Me

Hello, reader, I’m Erin!

Designing a Core is about figuring out what matters most for a given endeavor or space, and then implementing it. This could extend to a book collection, a theme park land, or a personal wardrobe. And yes, those are real examples of the Designing a Core philosophy, the phrasing initially inspired by the idea of core collections in libraries.

I first developed my philosophy of a Core while learning about curriculum design. Often what separates a merely okay class and a great class is clarity about the main ideas and practices of the course. The best of the best usually have a strong unity between their ideas and practices, and they focus course development on those key aspects. My favorite themed entertainment design class, for instance, centered around daily reviews of new work, done by whatever skills an individual student thought would work best for their ideas.

Because of how widely this ethos can be applied, I like to think this blog will have something for everyone. Planned regular content in addition to explorations of the Designing a Core ethos includes book reviews on subjects I care about, game reviews and system breakdowns, and projects I’m working on that I can share with the public. Pictures and exploits of my cat Alcibiades are also vitally important to this project. I hope you learn or hear of something new!
